International Student admissions
Sendai Ikuei Gakuen accepts international students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) Programme programmes. Please click on the link for each for more detailed information.
Admission/transfer dates for general international students are set twice a year (April and October) and entrance examinations, for these admission periods, are held about 4 months prior to the transfer date.
Currently, Sendai Ikuei accepts applications for international students in all grades from the first to the third year.
Students are enrolled in the international student class for the first six months after admission for intensive Japanese language instruction, and then transfer to the respective courses in which general students who wish to study are enrolled.
The length of study abroad differs depending on the month of transfer as follows.
April admission | 1st year transfer: 3 years, 2nd year transfer: 2 years, 3rd year transfer: 1 year |
---|---|
October admission | 1st year transfer: 3.5 years, 2nd year transfer: 2.5 years, 3rd year transfer: 1.5 years |
As the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme trial period starts in December of Grade 10, prospective International Baccalaureate students are recommended to apply for admission/transfer in the October admission, having first completed Grade 10 (or equivalent) in the country of origin. These students would initially join the intensive Japanese classes upon admission and then transfer to the IB DP trial from December. As such, the 2.5 year transfer programme is recommended for prospective IBDP students.
However, if IBDP students can be accepted in the IB class, the transfer date will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Admission requirements are as per the attached Application Guidelines for International Students (updated each application period), and study abroad agents are currently recruiting students according to these requirements. Please also refer to the attached PowerPoint presentation as the material used in the recruitment process.
As an important application requirement, you will need to submit documents proving that you have studied Japanese for at least one year by the date of the entrance examination in order to receive a certificate of eligibility for residence in Japan.
