China's Future Dreamers
Kyoyo Course 2nd year Tsukasa Onishi

The School Trip to China was held for students of the Kyoyo Course in October 2002. The 5 day trip was from October 13th to October 17th. The group of students arrived in the capital of China, Beijing, by plane. Sightseeing included the Great Wall of China and some famous archeological sights. After that, they flew to Changchun and visited one of Ikuei's sister schools, Changchun Foreign Language School. Ikuei Students had a good time and established a good relationship with the Chinese students. Tsukasa Onishi, who is a Kyoyo Course second year student participated on this trip, and wrote a report about it. On Tsukasa's parent's advice he endeavored to “See and find Japan from the outside world.” This was one of the main reasons that Tsukasa decided to attend the trip. At the welcoming party he was already starting to establish strong impressions about China and its people.

  Here follows Tsukasa's account.

I asked some Chinese students, “What is your dream? What would you like to be in the future?’Every student had the same answer, “ I would like to be a professional person.” Their single dream was to attend high level universities and then establish themselves in high level professional jobs. I thought about Japanese people and could not help but make comparisons. Japan's current wealth means that its young people do not necessarily need to work hard or fight for their future. Comparatively, young Chinese are working exceptionally hard, striving for the same kind of success, in order to create wealth and economic stability for their future and country. I discovered that seventeen year old Chinese girls did not have time to focus on anything but studying for their future professional life, in contrast to Japanese teenage girls who spend their free time enjoying teenage social interests. I was amazed by their strong motivation and “never give up” attitude. My personal realization about my own attitude to studies triggered in me a sense of frustration and the need to start to seriously think about my own professional future. I realized that my halfhearted attitude needed to change in order to make the most of my opportunities in the future, so as I could become the best person I could possibly be!
